The Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC) successfully hosted a meeting of the National AfCFTA Implementation Committee (NAIC) on 31st October 2025, in Mponela. This important gathering reaffirmed Malawi’s commitment to harnessing the opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) — a landmark agreement creating a single African market for goods and services.
The NAIC meeting brought together key Government Ministries, agencies, and private sector representatives to coordinate Malawi’s participation in AfCFTA. Members reviewed progress and developed strategies to:
• Boost Malawi’s exports within Africa
• Promote industrialization and attract investment
• Ensure inclusion of women, youth, and SMEs in regional trade
• Align national policies with AfCFTA commitments
The Committee is chaired by the Ministry of Industrialization, Business, Trade and Tourism, co-chaired by the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI), and supported by the MITC Secretariat. This collaborative structure ensures that both government and private sector voices are central to shaping Malawi’s trade future.
By strengthening its role in AfCFTA, Malawi is advancing the vision of Malawi 2063 — building a vibrant, competitive, and industrialized economy driven by trade, investment, and regional integration. The meeting underscored the country’s determination to seize continental opportunities, expand market access, and foster inclusive growth for all Malawians.
This engagement marks another step forward in positioning Malawi as a proactive player in Africa’s economic transformation, ensuring that the benefits of AfCFTA reach businesses, communities, and citizens across the nation.
